Erasmus+ and other EU programmes

Erasmus+ programme is a one- to two-semester programme for students from EU countries, non-EU countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, and Switzerland, Turkey, Former Yugoslav Republic of Macedonia). For full list of Erasmus+ partner countries see following link: https://ec.europa.eu/programmes/erasmus-plus/about_en#tab-1-1. Erasmus+ programme is offered on the basis of bilateral agreements between a foreign university and a particular faculty/department at Brno University of Technology (BUT). A student can participate in an Erasmus+ programme only if his/her university has signed a bilateral agreement with BUT. The minimum length of an Erasmus programme is 3 months, the maximum length being 12 months.

Conditions of participation in Erasmus+ programme
Students who want to participate in an Erasmus+ programme have to:

• be at least in the 2^nd year of a Bachelor's programme or pursuing Master's or Doctoral studies in any form – full-time, combined or part-time.
• be a citizen of any of the EU countries, EFTA countries (Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway and Switzerland) or candidate country (Turkey). An applicant can also be a citizen of a different country studying in any of the above-mentioned countries.

Admissions for the Erasmus+ programme
Application deadline: by 30 April for winter semester or full academic year, by 15 November for summer semester. (For semester dates see: https://www.favu.vut.cz/en/students/year-schedule.)

The Application Process

The first step is that our partner university nominates its student to study at our faculty via email. The student then contacts our faculty with an attached portfolio in electronic form (PDF or webpage) and writes which studio prefer for his/her studies (indicates 3 preferred studios). The student will be accepted on the basis of his/her portfolio to the respective studio. In addition to the portfolio, proof that the student's level of English is at a minimum of B1 level must be provided. The student then submits an e-application form no later than 31^st May for the winter semester or full academic year, 15^th November for the summer semester.

After confirmation of the acceptance to the chosen studio, the FFA International Office will put together Learning Agreement, listing the courses that you would like to study at our faculty. Before completing the Learning Agreement, please read the text Organization of Studies (below) and select from the list of courses. Please enclose your photo and a copy of your ID card or passport. Student can select one studio only and 30 credits in maximum. Further useful information you can find here.

Organization of Studies

Students at the Faculty of Fine Arts (FFA) can select from 17 studios that cover many fields of study (painting, sculpture, graphics and drawing, graphic design, product design, conceptual trends, environment, moving image, game design, performance, photography). Any student (full-time or exchange student, Czech-speaking or English-speaking) joins one studio and does most of his/her work and study in the course called “Studio”. English-speaking exchange students join one studio and work under the supervison of the head of the studio. Most of the head teachers (and their assistants) speak English and the way of teaching is based on individual tuition and consultations. This work qualifies as attending the course “Studio”. If they want to get credits for this work, they must stay till the week when the final semester projects are evaluated ("studio exam"). Thus they can be awarded 15 ECTS credits at the end of the semester and an ECTS grade (A to F). English-speaking students can also attend other courses but the offer is limited. For these minor courses they can receive 5 credits per each course. Students who need to get more than 15 ECTS credits during their one semester of study at the FFA should look up courses and write to mako@favu.vut.cz for confirmation of the selected courses before they complete their Learning Agreement.

Accommodation

Students can apply for accommodation in BUT dormitories by completing the on-line Request for Accommodation. Students who have to apply for a visa are strongly advised to arrange their accommodation well in advance, as confirmation of accommodation is an integral part of their visa application procedure. Grades and Credits

Similarly to other Czech universities, Brno University of Technology uses the European Credit Transfer System. The number of ECTS credits is a value allocated to a course to describe the student workload. The students are awarded the credits if they complete the course successfully. The ECTS grading scale is based on the rank of a student in a given assessment, that is how he/she performed relative to other students. However, the Czech educational system does not require that all students be graded after completion of a course. Therefore, a big proportion of courses taught at Brno University of Technology are conceived in such a way that the students are awarded credits but no grade – either they pass (P) and are awarded the credits, or fail (F) and are awarded no credits. An applicant should check first whether it is possible to participate in the programme chosen. After FFA BUT receives your nomination, you can apply for study the same way as for an Erasmus+ programme (see above).
